Introduction

Enjoy a view of Delphi and Mt. Parnassos from the front balcony of this traditional home located in the historic town of Galaxidi. Within a short walk of shops and restaurants, the house is a few feet from the sea and marvelous swimming, especially in the balmy days of fall.

Property Description

The original house was built in the early 19th c., and its position right on the sea and its sturdy simple thick-walled construction suggest it belonged to a fisherman or sailor. It was expanded in the early 20th century by a sea captain. The spaces are large and airy, simply furnished in a traditional local style with family memorabilia and heirlooms. The walled garden with table, chairs, and umbrella, is planted with jasmine, bougainvillea, plumbago, succulents, and, of course, geraniums.

The house is laid out in traditional Galaxidi style on two floors, with a street entrance downstairs and a garden entrance upstairs. Upstairs a broad hall connects the garden entrance to the balcony perched over the sea. Opening off the hall are two of the bedrooms, which share a full bath with large shower. One bedroom has a full sea view as well as a park view, the other faces the garden. Also upstairs is a sunny eat-in fully-equipped kitchen with partial view of the sea from one window and garden from another. Down the hall from the kitchen is a comfortable living/dining room with full view of the sea.  The downstairs bedroom faces the sea and has a full bathroom en suite as well as a large living room with (nonworking) fireplace. All three bedrooms have queen-size beds. The house is also equipped with WiFi and TV, and each bedroom has an air conditioning unit.

Right across a narrow street are steps and public dock for swimming, and next door is a delightful, accessible beach club with deck chairs, tables, large cooling umbrellas, excellent coffee and snacks, and according to a recent 8-year-old visitor from the U.S., the 'best hamburgers in the world.'

Local Attractions

The house is located on Hierolaka, a secondary harbor on the north side of the Galaxidi peninsula. The main harbor, with its lively restaurants and cafes, is a five-minute walk from the house, as is the shopping area with its bakeries and food markets. The archaeological site of Delphi is 40 minutes away, as is – in the opposite direction - the historic town of Nafpactos. There are many other points of interest within easy driving distances.
