Introduction

Located in the hillside village of Palio Klima in northern Skopelos, the house commands magnificent views of the sea and the sunset. Like most of the houses in this picturesque settlement, it is built of stone with wooden balconies, in a vernacular architecture that dates back to the 18th c. and in many cases, meticulously restored after a devastating earthquake in 1965.

Property Description

With three bedrooms, a sleeping mezzanine, and one and a half bathrooms, the house can accommodate up to nine people.  The house is entered on its middle floor into an open-plan living room and dining area brightened by large windows and opening onto a balcony with stunning views, perfect for watching the sunset.  This floor also houses the fully-equipped kitchen, fireplace, a half bathroom as well as a mezzanine with three single beds.

The ground floor, accessible both from within the house and by an outside staircase, comprises three comfortable double bedrooms, the laundry, and a shared bathroom. Outside, there is a traditional barbeque next to the seating area protected by a vine-shaded pergola, along with a second dining area that overlooks the garden and has an uninterrupted view of the village.

The house is partially air-conditioned (upper floor only) because the downstairs is naturally cooled by the thick walls! As for cooler months, there are electric heaters in all the rooms plus a working fireplace. It is also equipped with WiFi.

Local Attractions

Skopelos has attractive forests and trails of unique beauty for walking and hiking. Among the sites are ancient carved tombs at Sentoukia; the lighthouse near Cape Gourouni; and many little-visited coves. There are also some 360 churches and 24 monasteries. For those who enjoy scuba-diving, arrangements can be made locally to visit the important Alonissos Underwater Museum of the Amphora Shipwreck, dated c. 420 BC.

For a unique experience one evening, visitors should try to catch a performance of traditional folk music by the legendary rebetiko singer George Ksydaris and his sons in Anatoli. The culinary specialties of Skopelos include a delicious local cheese pie and spoon-sweets, and above all, fresh fish from the waters around Skopelos and its sister Sporades islands, served throughout the island and especially in favorite restaurants and bars like Agnanti, Kapetan Spyros, Rodi, Korali, Bar Bar, and Bar Oionos.

How to Get There

Skopelos is accessible in various ways. There are year-round flights from Athens and seasonal flights from major European hubs to the nearby island of Skiathos, which serves Skopelos by a 15 minute seacab that crosses to the port of Loutraki, close to the village.

It is also possible to drive or take a bus to Volos, Ag. Konstantinos (all year round) or Mandoudi (May to October) ports and then take a ferry to Skopelos.  In summer months, there is also a boat from Thessaloniki.

Cars are not allowed in the village, so the house is accessed by a short walk along a traditional cobblestone path that serves to transport the visitors into a peaceful haven of times past.
