Introduction

Located in the town of Leonidio, this traditional stone-built villa has views from upstairs to the sea and the famous Red Rock. Within walking distance is the town center, with its stores, cafes and restaurants, while Plaka, the town’s port, as well as the beach are 2 1/2 miles away.

Property Description

The house was built in the mid-19th c. and belonged to a prosperous merchant. Set in a traditional walled garden, the house is surrounded by citrus, olive, fig, mulberry, and plum trees as well as grapevines, with bougainvillea, geraniums, hibiscus, acanthus and jasmine adding color and fragrance. Flagstone verandas welcome guests to dine al fresco or just enjoy the starry nights.

The house’s main living area is located downstairs under the Kamara (barrel vaulted ceiling). Besides the comfortable sitting area with a fireplace, there is a dining area, a sunny breakfast room, a fully equipped kitchen, a pantry and a guest restroom. The sleeping area is upstairs, accessible via an outdoor staircase. The small balcony at the top of the stairs offers beautiful sunrise views to the sea, as well as the Sleeping Lady Mountain formation. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. Each bedroom had a split king bed (two attached extra-long twin beds that can be easily separated). The large bedroom has a third twin bed so can sleep three people. It has surround views from its six windows to both the sea and the mountains. The middle bedroom has views to the garden, the windmills and the sea.  A crib is located in this bedroom. The small bedroom has a charming view of the Red Rock. The linen closet has extra bed linen and towels.

There is split heating/cooling in the sitting room and in each of the bedrooms.  The house has WiFi, telephone and a TV as well as a washing machine and a drier. There is a covered parking space for one car by the house entrance and additional street parking is available a bit further away.

Local Attractions

Located in the Eastern coast of the Peloponnese, Leonidio is a protected architectural site, built on a fertile plain famous for its eggplants and surrounded by granite rocks and Mount Parnon.  In recent years it has become a tourist destination for world-class rock climbing. There are many hiking trails, the famous monastery of Elona, as well Plaka, the town port. Fish tavernas, restaurants and cafes are waiting to serve you. Our favorite in recent years has been Myrtoon

Leonidio can be used as a base for day-trips to Nafplio, Sparta, Monemvasia, Epidauros, Mycenae, Mani, Mistras, Navarino, Olympia or other places of interest in the Peloponnese. One can also book a cruise to the island of Spetses across the bay or to the nearby coast.
