Local Attractions
Mati is a traditional, favorite beach town for Athenians escaping the summer heat. Located on the north-eastern shore of Athens, it has both rocky and sandy beaches, some close to the house. The town also boasts two outdoor cinemas, small shops, and a local bakery. In just a few minutes by car you also reach the towns of Agia Marina and Nea Makri, which have an even larger selection of shops. In nearby Marathon you can visit the museum, which gives the story of Marathon accompanied by a selection of antiquities. Athens is 40 minutes by car or by a daily bus service that runs frequently and takes around an hour and a half to two hours. With the port of Rafina close by, you can easily visit the islands of Andros and Euboea for a day trip.
